One of the most exciting parts of creating the Monroe Botanical Garden is watching the project move from an idea into a reality. While much of the work is still happening behind the scenes, each meeting, conversation, and planning session helps bring the vision into sharper focus.

On June 1, members of the Studio GWA and Saiki Design teams joined Cathy Hauck and me for an important meeting with representatives from the City of Monroe administration. This marked one of the first formal opportunities to bring city staff into the planning and design process as we conceptualize both the garden spaces and the buildings that will support them.

Over the past several weeks, observers of the future home of the Monroe Botanical Garden have seen some significant changes. Several of the aging structures that once occupied the property have now been removed, opening up the site and allowing us to begin envisioning its future in a whole new way.

Every meaningful community project begins with a simple question.

What if?

What if Monroe had a beautiful public space where people could gather with family and friends, slow down for a while, and experience something inspiring together? What if our community had a destination that reflected the beauty, creativity, and potential already present here? What if a neglected space in the center of town could be transformed into something elegant, welcoming, and alive?

Those questions eventually became the foundation for what is now the Monroe Botanical Garden.
